TikTok Shop is a social commerce platform that lets businesses sell directly inside TikTok. Products can be tagged in short videos, sold during LIVE streams, and displayed in a shop tab on your profile, so viewers can buy without ever leaving the app.
One of its biggest features is the affiliate program, which lets creators promote your products in their own videos in exchange for a commission you set. TikTok also offers ads to boost shoppable content and Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) for storage and shipping. There are no setup or monthly fees; TikTok charges a referral fee on completed orders.
TikTok Shop works best for visual, easy-to-demonstrate, trend-friendly products like beauty, fashion, gadgets, and home goods, especially for businesses willing to create content regularly or work with creators. It’s a poor fit if you don’t want to be on camera or can’t keep up a steady flow of videos.
Costs go beyond the referral fee. Affiliate commissions, ad spend, free-shipping promotions, and returns add up quickly, and TikTok changes its policies and fees often. Sales can also spike and fade with trends, which makes inventory planning tricky.
Long Island businesses with a strong local following on TikTok can use TikTok Shop to turn that audience into direct sales.
