Walmart Marketplace lets third-party sellers list products on Walmart.com alongside Walmart’s own inventory. It gives brands access to one of the largest retail audiences in the country, and because the seller base is smaller than Amazon’s, some categories see less competition.
Unlike most marketplaces, Walmart requires sellers to apply and be approved before listing. There are no setup, monthly, or listing fees; you pay a referral fee only when an item sells. Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) can store, pack, and ship your products, and Walmart offers advertising tools and programs to help new sellers get started.
Walmart Marketplace is best for established product businesses with reliable inventory and competitive pricing, especially those already selling on Amazon who want a second major channel. It’s not an ideal starting point for brand-new sellers, since the application asks about your business and marketplace experience.
Keep in mind that approval isn’t guaranteed, and Walmart expects strong performance on shipping speed, cancellations, and customer service. Traffic is large, but still smaller than Amazon’s for most products.
For Long Island brands already selling nationally online, Walmart Marketplace is a way to add reach without paying a monthly subscription.
