Stony Brook University runs a network of business incubators that give startups and young companies space, support, and a connection to the university’s research. The program spans several locations: the Long Island High Technology Incubator on the university’s east campus, the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology and the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center at the Research and Development Park, and the Business Incubator at Calverton on eastern Long Island.
Together, the incubators offer more than 100,000 square feet of rental space, including wet labs as small as 250 square feet, along with non-resident options for companies that do not need space. Resident companies get workshops, business development help, mentorship, meeting space, and access to Stony Brook’s researchers and facilities. The Calverton incubator also supports food businesses with shared kitchen and storage space.
The incubators are a strong fit for technology, biotech, clean energy, and food startups that need specialized space or want to work alongside university researchers.
Admission is selective, and residents pay rent, so the program is better suited to companies with a defined product or technology than to early idea-stage ventures.
For Long Island founders building a technical company, Stony Brook’s incubators are one of the region’s most established launching points.
