The Stony Brook Small Business Development Center is part of the New York State Small Business Development Center network, which is administered by SUNY and funded in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration. It provides free, confidential business advising to startups and existing small businesses on Long Island.
Certified Business Advisors work one-on-one with owners on business plans, financing and loan preparation, market research, and growth strategy. The center operates under Stony Brook University’s Office of Research and Innovation, giving clients access to university resources, and it supports manufacturers through the statewide NYSBDC Manufacturing and Onshoring Hub. Its office is in the Research and Development Park on Stony Brook’s campus.
The Stony Brook SBDC is a strong fit for Suffolk County entrepreneurs who want professional, ongoing advising rather than a single meeting, including technology and manufacturing businesses that can benefit from university connections.
To get started, you submit a Request for Counseling form and choose Suffolk County and the Stony Brook SBDC. Advisors help you build your plan and financial projections, but you’ll still do the work, and appointments may take some time to schedule.
For East End and central Suffolk businesses, the Stony Brook SBDC is one of the region’s most valuable free resources.
