The Long Island Small Business Development Center hosted by Farmingdale State College provides free, one-on-one business advising to anyone who wants to start a business or already owns one. It’s part of the New York State Small Business Development Center network, supported in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Advisors help with startup and business structure questions, business plans, cash flow projections, marketing plans, loan information, government contracting, and certifications. Since opening in 1985, the center reports working directly with more than 36,000 businesses and helping create or save more than 21,000 jobs. It also produces the Business Breakthrough New York podcast and hosts workshops throughout the year.
The Farmingdale SBDC is a great fit for Nassau and western Suffolk entrepreneurs who want professional guidance on financing, planning, or government contracting, at no cost.
Like other SBDCs, it offers advising and training rather than doing the work for you or providing funding directly. Plan ahead for appointments, and bring your financials or business idea so the first meeting is productive.
